While it might improve diffraction profile, it skews off axis response to where they no longer are symmetrical. This can be a problem, and more so than the diffraction ripple.
Different schools of thought, but neither is wrong per se,

Thanks wolf_teeth.
I have a dedicated listening room, and it is only me sitting in the sweet spot (with an occasional guest) dead center so it sounds like you are suggesting that diffraction effects should not be a concern and I could just stick with Paul's driver placement.

If you are building the Carrera, you should not move the driver placement at all. It has a xover designed for the drivers as they are positioned. If you want Carreras, built them verbatim as designed.
I did not say that diffraction was not a concern, just that concerns and trade-offs vary from build to build.

You hear the walls. Imagine walking into a strange place in the dark.sitting in the sweet spot (with an occasional guest) dead center
audiojerry,
I enjoyed the Carrera's regularly over the past few years.
I am currently in the process of building a 3 way speaker of my own design with drivers used in the Carrera plus an 8" woofer; hence the reference in the past tense that you have mentioned in your earlier post. 🙂
I once had the opportunity to listen to a pair of Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor stand mount speakers and was impressed with the sound. I started searching for DIY projects using the Scanspeak Revelator 5.5" driver, and settled on the Carrera. The Revelator driver in the Cremona Auditor was an uncoated one, and it is possible that SF was using a custom version - I can't be sure. However, after building the Carrera I was not disappointed - it does very well for a compact design.

So, it sounds like your main reason for parting with the Carrera was lack of punch or total output? I can see why there might be a need to produce a more room filling sound.
I have had large floorstanders, but they don't perform as well in my listening space. I get a wider, deeper soundstage with stand mounts and more precise imaging. Plus, I enjoy a more near-field listening experience, and I get less wall reflections.

My CARRERA's are finished and run in. I'm very happy with the outcome. They sound great. I have 7,5 ohm iso 8 ohm on the tweeter (had to use 2X15ohm ) and the BR pipe is 8"long as I couldnt decide between 9 or 7". Now I think 7 will suit me best.
@audiojerry. Did you build them too? I wonder how you compare them to your ProAc's.
