I try to look good. (Yes I get paid, despite not looking good).
Working as sound engineer for bands and running Clubs/organising parties/raves.
Clearing up blockages and cleaning up in the ladies Toilettes around halve way through a saturday night in the Clubs I used to run.
Oh, actually being unemployed because of being blackballed by the communit government in east germany was worse, but not much.
Your diploma/degree et all illustrates that you are ABLE to learn, not that you really know anything. So go out there and try your hand at anything fancy to get to know things. The more the better.
You can relax, sleep and be bored when you aquired a permanent position pushing up daisies. Untill then - full steam ahead, live is too short and too interesting to sit around wondering "what to do", intead of doing.
Of course if you desperatly want to be President of the US, First man on mars, corporate slave or overlord or in any way conform and go along with todays established norms - just do as the Johnsons do - safe, sound and boring.

PS, ON NO ACCOUNT, ABSOLUTELY NO ACCOUNT program in Cobol, Ada or Assembler, DO NOT sell, market, manufacture or design audio gear (except purely for fun and giggles) and don't work in banks (except as hakker stealing their money). I cannot really recoomnd priesthood, pornstar career or a career in politics or the military either, assuming you have sense and some basic morals and goodness. Other than that - better a waiter in a small caffee in paris during spring in paris than a Microserf in Redmond, even if Microsft pays better....

i work in the medical field battling insurance companies every day.
i hate it. My degree is a BA in Fine Art. So i slog away the days for
a paycheck to be able to do my art, just for me. If i didn't have a
creative outlet - there wouldn't be much of a reason to live. So,
nearly 15 years out of college i'm still looking for my dream job 🙁
so as others have said, if at all possible find a job that you are
excited to wake up every day and do.... so much more important
than going for the $$.

I am a student at the University of Tennessee majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in material science engineering concentration in plastics and polymers. oh yeah during the summer i work for Panasonic as a part time speaker design engineer!!!! I love it, the job definitally rocks!!!!!

If you decide to enter the military, finish your degree first and go in as an officer. Don't enlist! I can't stress this enough. The benefits, pay, opportunities, uniforms etc, etc are better. You'll never clean a toilet, swab a deck. You won't have much opportunity to put hands into the equipment, but the NZ Navy might be different. You can go in an engineer and work R&D if you want to stay in a technical area. If you have any other questions, I have several friends, officer and senior enlisted, in the OZ Navy that can probably answer your questions. Good luck.
