Would it be plausible to use car subwoofers in an HT environment in an HT type enclosure? What would be the predicted results? I have seen some people use them... and it seems to be ok. I only ask because most good HT subs are expensive and car subs of similar specs aren't... Any thoughts?
There is a reason for this. Generally, you get what you pay for, so to speak. If you search around a little more, you should be able to find at least a few threads about this...trespasser_guy said:...most good HT subs are expensive and car subs of similar specs aren't...
I did a lot of experimentations with car sub for home use and usually it is quite surprising how good they are. Some people pretend that they are really bad but this is not true. A driver does not need to have the "audiophile" tag to be good 🙂 Never base your opinion on the price. I think that home theater is less critical on the quality of the sub. In conclusion, I will say go for it and have fun, you will not be disapointed.
Keep in mind that car subs are generally designed to take advantage of the small volume of air in a car. So a car has a huge cabin gain vs. a typical room for a home theater. So you're gonna have to account for that. But having said that my sub has three JL Audio 8W6 car subs and I've very happy with it.
