the mosfet you mentioned will work. it has enough current rating.
as for my schematic, I haven't drawn any yet and I don't have a scanner or camera so I can't put it online. 🙁
although it is almost the same in basic operation to that recently posted schem. 🙂

I hate Fairchild, they never send the samples.
Can I use any of these on this page: http://www.gensemi.com/mosfets/v-ds-gteq-30-v-lteq-60-v/to-220-package/
I can't make sense of most of the numbers.
Thanks!

Hey guys,
I'm finally starting to work on this. I don't have the buz11 MOSFETS, but instead a Vishay SUP75N03-07.
The voltage specs are completely different, 30V instead of 50V, but aren't the MOSFETs only fed the 12V input, so 30V would be fine?
Here is the BUZ11 datasheet:
http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/BU/BUZ11.pdf
and here is the SUP75N03-07 datasheet:
http://www.vishay.com/docs/70794/70794.pdf
I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to MOSFETs so hopefully somebody will understand the data in those datasheets and tell me if they will work.
Also, how hot would you think the MOSFETs will get, and will there be any voltage on the tab where it will zap me if I were to touch it, so i would have to isolate the chips from the heatsink?
Thanks for all the help so far!
edit: one more quick question. I'm probably going to use Rod Elliot's circuit, but want it as simple as I can possibly make it. Are there any parts I can omit that are not needed? I'm looking at the 10n caps on the battery connection, the 220 ohm resistor and 1n cap after the transformer, and inductor L2. can I get rid of those, and any others?
