I want to build my first car audio amp. Lots of watts, good quality. But mainly lots of watts and stable. I have never built one due to the high power required from the SMPS. But it is time to do it so I don't have that looming over my "cant do" list. Is there a thread that has lots of interest here that I missed? Or are there enough people interested in this to get a thread going? I thought about using one of the designs already covered on the site along with a SMPS that I can build. And of course detailing my efforts here!

I'm interested in your project.
I am currently designing 2 amplifiers starting at 0.
1- An Old Pioneer GM-120 in Class D
2 - a powerful S-Class D stereo amplifier with irs2092 or lm318 / 74hc02d / ir2011s design, using the rugged frame of an unmanaged amplifier.
I will publish some schemes to help you, but I will only do it in the coming days.

There are a few threads in here, some are quite long but not so much from the last few years.
I built a 12v class d amp a few year ago and had quite good results here-

here is another-

If you search the car audio forum with "sg3525" you will find lots of info.
cheers Greg

Hi Stuey, the chassis came from an electronics disposal store locally here in Australia. I bought the last 2 they had. So far i have only done 8ohm power tests but i have a new dummy load so will do some 4ohm tests soon.

Greg
Im working on a design around a TL594 IC. Rod's only goes to around 30volts. The one I am designing now should go to +-85volts. Im just starting this journey, this is my first big SMPS. I have made buck boost converters , but this will be fun. I will be posting schematics as I go to try to get feedback
Rods design is easily scalable. My version has +- 75v regulated rails. Looking forward to following your progress.
Nice to hear Greg32, I will look into that also tonight. Thanks for the info. I didnt see too much info about the ability to scale it up. But now that I know I can I will check it out more for sure
