They wouldn’t tolerate a reflow oven if they did come in SMT. They don’t tolerate someone getting clumsy with an iron either. Melt it at all and it’s probably shorted. Leads break off way too easy too.
I tend to only by ‘styrenes surplus when I find some, so decent quantities of limited values. Same for the micas. But I find them more often, and a wider variety. You can get any value C0G anywhere in the world in 24 hours. And in SMT. But 500 volt C0G’s? Not so much. All the serious wattage stuff, and most of the tube stuff, needs that kind of voltage.
