Hello,
New to this forum and I found a lot of useful information here, thank you for everyone.
Recently I bought 2 BHC ALS30 22000uF capacitor for the chip amp from RS component. I see the joint between the terminal and the capacitor is rusting?(some brownish color stuff, see the attached photo). Is anyone here see this before? Are they safe to use? I see a few dents on them as well.
The capacitors were shipped from RS Singapore.
Thank You for your help.
Regards,
SK

Thanks for your reply Damon. I charge it with a 17V SMPS. After I disconnect it from the supply, the voltage across the terminal decrease slowly, it seems OK.
After I push RS for the explanation, RS sent me the attached photo....
Because of the dents cause by the screws, (RS just put the screws and the capacitor in a plastic bag) RS will send me a new pair.

Caps are much cheaper than surgery. Bad caps can explode spectacularly, and usually at the worst time. Don't risk it, get new ones that aren't leaky and dented.
If you'll scratch, is it chemical stuff or does it feel like rust? For me the explanations seem reasonable.
It is a coating on top of the metal. To me the explanation seem reasonable too. That photo is from BHC. For the dent, it is the responsibility of RS, so they agree to send me a new pair.
Thank You for the information from SY and peranders.
