Hi
What is the advantage of doubling the capacitor bank in an audio amp?
Cleaner sounding? More bass slam, etc..?
Aside from added costs, is there any disadvantage?

Better bass, but higher rectifier peak currents. More cans will distribute the ripple current
among them and the capacitors will run cooler and last longer.

2x the caps, 1/2 the ripple; 4x the caps, 1/4 the ripple; 10x the caps, 1/10 the ripple; ad nauseam...
With 10x the caps you might need to control the inrush current.

Yes. You may want to look at Rod's soft-start project: Soft-Start Circuit For Power Amps
As always, he explains things pretty well.
