Some good points. Then we come to waveguides. They are a lot like direct radiators so where would they go?
Even my old speakers have made an appearance there!A lots of stuff with Jean Hiraga and Voice Of The Theater
what fascinates me about horns is
a) it's the only true high efficiency technology and is an elegant approach from a technical perspective
Sort of. Off axis performance traded for on-axis.
b) they consistently generate a perception of aliveness amongst many users that they can't find with other solutions
As can other kinds of systems for other people depending on the set of compromises they can best tolerate. I have yet to hear a direct raditor system with horns on top (what you are calling a horn system despite haing the majority of its bandwidth covered by a direct radiator) that i could live with. And that is a smaple of many. I am still eagar to hear one that sounds OK.
c) the method of working is different and this means a chance to learn something new
Every yool is used differently. Learning new things is a joy.

wouldn't it be great to have a Horns Forum to hold such a debate ?Sort of. Off axis performance traded for on-axis.

+ zillion to Bigunwhat fascinates me about horns is

c) the method of working is different and this means a chance to learn something new, the requirements on drivers is v. different especially with compression drivers and we have access to very good freeware modelling software so that anybody can design a good horn speaker (within reason)
I think horns are sufficiently distinct from direct radiators that they would justify a separate forum (just like Class D is not buried inside Solid State or Chip Amps)
Today compression drivers with high efficiency neodymium magnets cost moderate money no need pricey TAD's.

Horns section in the forum can bring a lots of new members....think about 😉

If still alive, how might Paul Klipsch and Bruce Edgar deal with whether there could exist such a thing as a dedicated "horn forum" within Diyaudio?
That subforum is now effectively dead and many of its more active participants with regard to diy modifications, have migrated here. The only horn loudspeaker forum I know of is Klipsch's Technical-Modifications forum. Audio Asylum's High Efficiency Speaker forum is pretty much dead and useless. (It worked better when DJK was alive)

When visiting the Klipsch mod/tech forum some years back I really enjoyed seeing "Edgar's models for La Scala and such. In the multiway forum here there's often talk of mating a bass reflex to WG and thinking that will be sufficient for dynamic peaks with typical single-tube single ended tube amplifiers. - maybe so - maybe not.
I could see a low cost La Scala - Belle - or larger FLH basshorn as being a good alternative to the reflex/WG and without too much added expense due to PRV's 2 inch exit phenolic $70 driver.
Here's a comment from email which don't think Bill Woods would mind being published regarding "110Hz"
