When I was a teenager I fiddled around with solid fuel rockets (naphthalene aka mothballs and permanganate of potash). I remember reading up about aluminium powder being used in big solid fuel boosters.fireworks, the hindenburg and solid rocket boosters.
Yup. It's being spread via chemtrails. 😉Lots of aluminum powder in Canadian forest fires I hear.

It's funny that now Hollywood beauties don't speak out about these fires. Last year, because of the droughts here in Brazil, they came to give their rotten opinion and lying to the world that Brazilian agribusiness was burning forests. That's why I don't believe in activists or NGOs, here in Brazil there are hundreds of foreign NGOs installed and they settle in the Amazon, where there are countless species of medicinal plants and gold. Funny that these NGOs don't settle in the northeast region of Brazil, where the climate is dry and people need help.
I didn't realise that Canada was the world's 4th or 5th largest aloominum smelting country, but no bauxite reserves worth digging up. Makes sense if you think of the geography.Lots of aluminum powder in Canadian forest fires I hear.
You go to war with the data you have, not the data you wish you had...It's crap. I was interested enough to go to the source. They admit that it's inconsistent regarding both data source and time.
Very interesting. I worked in Kitimat when I was a young lad, not at the smelter fortunately. I did get to see some of the workings, pot lines etc., when I was there. My dad's brother (Professor) worked for Alcan designing furnaces in Canada.

Sometimes anecdote can beat crap data. That graph says not much has changed. Now I am trained to hit Home Depot as soon as air quality hits 10 because I know HEPA furnace filters will sell out.You go to war with the data you have, not the data you wish you had...
My bad - serves me right for not checking my sources. HMS Sheffield was indeed made of steel and not aluminium.Aluminum can burn, @1730 C under carefully controlled conditions. That's hotter than a "basic oxygen furnace" by about 100C.
FWIW, in 1982 HMS Sheffield was rumored to have been destroyed by an Exocet missile because of its aluminum superstructure. In fact the Sheffield was entirely steel. So that falsehood has to be put to rest.

For the current fires folks are coming not just from the U.S. but also Europe to help fight the fire. It is that big. Also some newbies will be allowed to learn a bit. (Eyebrows grow back, I know first hand!)
Don't forget the Aussies! 😉 I think we sent some people over.
This video of some Australian firefighters in a burnover
always leaves me in awe. I know they all deal with this kind of thing, but this was the first video I saw of it happening. Action starts at about 3:00. It just shows how easily they can lose their life, relying on a puny water spray to stop the truck catching fire.

Australia, although mostly desert, has perhaps the most beautiful forests.
So I can see sending folks both to help and learn. Big advantage is they almost speak English!

Sure there is chance French's firemen are not going to be pretty fluent in English. 🙂
I've recently seen a firesquad Captain explaining given situation faced all around the globe there will probably be a global firesquad organisation to help country facing this monster fire. Kind of fireman's ONU.
Situation is a concern almost anywhere, States, EU, Australia... even Siberia seen huge fire early this year. Time to unit.

Posts relating to direct mains connection of a high voltage Cockcroft Walton multiplier have been removed.
It's been hazy and cooler than normal for a few days now. I could smell the smoke in the house a couple of days ago.
I'm not liking it. Hasn't cracked 60 degrees F today. It's supposed to be warm this time of year.

I do not want to start an argument, is it possible to recommend using a ready made, certified safe unit for situations like this, where high smoke and particulate matter levels in the air can trigger allergic reactions at times?
There are some commercial units sold as air purifiers using a shielded high voltage discharge, with and without a fan, here in India, not a very big seller, as most of us open the windows in our houses for ventilation.
Air conditioners run about 16 hours a day in peak summer, the windows are opened the rest of the time.
And the a/c is used only six months of the year where I live.
An alternate is to use a wet fabric cover / curtain at the windows, that might help reduce the entry of smoke particles in dwellings with mostly internal air circulation.

I haven't turned the air conditioning on yet, but I might if this keep up. Usually it has to be pretty hot before I turn it on.
We have not gotten even close to the worst of it here. East Coast got dangerous levels of smoke. However, if this becomes a long term trend (has been happening for at least a few years) then I can see major public health issues down the road. And even the stinky haze here reduces the quality of life here at the very least. I am sure the situation here is a health issue for people with cardiovascular and pulmonary health issues. My nose is running and I've been hacking and I'm pretty damn healthy these days.
