a-k, the coffee shops on your side of the border in BC aren't (from what I understand, never been there) really specialists in coffee, but more likely herbs and, ummmm, spices.
Perhaps you need to travel a bit more through the US. The coffee down here is often quite excellent, far more often than was the case 10 years ago. Even in this remote outpost in the Rocky Mountains, there are three or four shops where one can buy a world-class cup made from freshly-roasted top quality varietal beans.
Sadly, the quality of coffee in Europe seems to be going in the other direction. I can't remember a single decent cup of coffee in my 40 or 50 times in Germany, a few in Austria (Vienna only, it's a wasteland elsewhere), and none in France. One can still find excellence in Italy.
What I find puzzling is the huge deterioration of both the coffee and the presentation in Holland compared to 20 years ago.
I cannot forgive Canada for Rush and Keanu Reeves.

Hey they gave us Shatner. Funny you mention Germany, we have a friend who sabaticals here and one of their most important things is to bring their own coffee.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

But Tim Horton's is a big dive toward the negative side...
You ppl leave my timmies alone or I'll immediately hone my Subjective 'til it becomes an Absolute and then I'll club you all with it like I do seal puppies and I eat their hearts as a side dish to my timmies cauphee and maple flavoured donuts
And nobody mentioned Feist yet!?! Get out of the stone age people!

ummmm...not true, it's not like Amsterdam. When you say coffee shop you mean a Starbucks, Seattle's Best and even the good old greasy spoon. Nothing to do with the BC bud.

One of the best sips in the morning i ever had was Salvation Army coffee from a thermos bottle, more sugar any filling can stand.

Canada-land haha!
What is this thread? My country could beat up your country! Feel the wrath of Canadian lumber, fools!
Did I see someone talking bad of Rush back there? In a thread about how awesome Canada is? GRR...
Seriously though, this thread gave me some chuckles having just found it today, a good Friday morning read...I recommend everyone find some Ron James stand-up comedy and watch it. He'll teach you about Canadian heritage.

Who the frack is Feist?
More from the "stone age":
Joni Mitchell, Burton Cummings (Guess Who), April Wine, Bruce Cockburn.

Still more: John Candy, Robin Duke, Eugene Levy -- i.e. most of the cast of "Second City TV" which was funnier than SNL.

Yeah, let me know what they look like after having a half-dozen kids when they have mushed across the Yukon Territories and been eating nothing but potatoes and beer.
