I was googling soundcard software when I came upon this shareware product from an ornithologist (bird scientist for those of you in Rio Linda 🙂 )
http://www.visualizationsoftware.com/gram/example15.html
an analysis of a 9 second clip from Aphex Twin
the program is "Visualization Software"

...I've heard if you take the casing off your CD player and manually spin an Aphex Twin CD backwards at half speed you are told to invest in offshore savings bonds.
Creepy 😱
Creepy 😱
If that is for real then its a masterpiece in engineering 😉 and has taken back-tracking to a whole new level!
Somehow I think it is the authors of the software having a bit of fun.... though if you were just doing a spectral analysis of the song and that came up you would jump out of your skin!!
Tony.

OK apparently it is real!! 🙂 more info here --> http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,52426,00.html

Tony.
That thing is entirely real; I've played the track on my computer and performed the spectral analysis which successfully revealed the image.
One thing I thought was interesting is that mp3 encoding kills the image 😉 must be using some very subtle low level stuff that mp3 is throwing away.

This bit about the mp3 compression is completely incorrect though. I used the mp3 to obtain my image, and I know from theory that the mp3 will not affect the image quality even as much as it degrades the sound.
maybe the person writing the article had a really low bit rate mp3 😉 I'm going to have to get hold of this and give it a try myself 🙂
I remember the first time i played the track on "the wall" (can't remember think it is at the end of run like hell)... backwards on the turntable and thought it was so cool..... "Congratulations you have found the secret message. Please send your answer to old pink care of the funny farm...... Roger Carolines on the phone"
This is the next generation...... I'm going to have to have a look at some other stuff too 😉 I downloaded a cool program called spectran a while ago, will give it a go.

There are a couple of backwards messages on jeffmilner.com. Click backmasking. I'd say a couple of them are fake becuase if you don't look at the lyrics, you just don't hear it. There are different version of these.
EDIT: What's the point of buying the Visualization Software program if you can use Winamp to do it?

when I said get hold of it, I meant the song, not the software 😉 spectran should do the trick 🙂

The image of the face is in the end of the complex mathematical equation.
?!? I heard no such thing.
Not me. Not even in Spectran. I just found a strange "logo" at the end of the tune but that's all.Viewed with that winamp DSP.
this is the text that goes with the original picture posted at the begining of this thread (found cached in google)....
might help when setting up the spectral analysis software 🙂
Tony.
.This spectrogram was made using a nine-second sample from "Equation" by Aphex Twin. The vertical axis is log frequency, and the horizontal axis is time.
