Can you build me a passive pre-amp?

Schiit has one for $49 but without remote. I'm old and lazy so remote volume control a must. Only listen to cd's. I do have a powered sub I want to keep using, currently fed signal at speaker level ins. So here is what I want. Remote for volume control, ONE l,r rca pair IN for cd player, ONE l,r rca pair OUT to amp, and a SINGLE rca variable out (controlled by pre-amp volume) so I can connect my powered sub with a single rca male/male interconnect, not speaker level. Easy, simple, affordable. If you won't build it but can send me a complete parts list I would appreciate it.

1) not that easy and simple by any means. 😎

2) You will need some kind of IR receeiver, a decoder, and that will have to drive a *motorized* volume control.

Plus a power supply to feed the whole shebang.

3) worst of all, your 2 resistor mixer coming from the volume control will *destroy* your stereo separation, big time.

You get into deep trouble just to "try" to realize a "puristic" dream.

Nice in Theory, terrible in Practice. 🙂

The answer - analog-passive-no-ic,s/BJT,s -no operational amps -no RF signals -non-crystal controlled -no digital anything --- caution ! this remote requires operation by more than one finger.

In my view, member @davidtil has made a proposal. He proposes what I will call a "trade" or a "barter": An exchange of goods or services, for other goods or services, without using money.

As I understand the proposed trade, thus far anyway, it appears to be:

  • Member "person_X" gives member @davidtil a complete & working passive preamp with remote
  • and, in exchange,
  • Member @davidtil gives member "person_X" nothing at all

thanks to you all. Schiit Saga will work for me because it has 2 variable outs, one for amp, one for sub. Just need a 2 male rca to one male rca interconnect. No way I can build a custom one-off to match it for $250 which is what a used Saga-S (before the tube addition) in excellent condition is bringing.
