Does the BC327 and sibling is not less noiser than BC550 ?
Do they need the transistor need a matching to increase the performance ?
What please is involved by the increase voltage of the rails ? (I see 9V, 15V, etc with the BC550 for instance).

Where have all the Low Noise Transistors Gone?
> Do they need the transistor need a matching to increase the performance ?
Yes.

Try for yourself in Spice.

Thanks again Patrick. It will take me quite a while to get a feel for LT SPICE as my knowledge in this field is very limited, but I want to learn.
I see your point about the simulated distortion figures. Having listened to the circuit with BC550/560 I'd happily have believed those but it sounds superb with 2SA970/2SC2240 so at the very least I'll have some fun trying to reconcile my subjective results with the simulated ones.

You can change the Spice file to use 2SA970 / 2SC2240.
