I have a Schneider CD-7402 stereo cdp with single pcm56p dac on board. I checked datasheet of this chip and it confirms that is a mono chip. But there is only one... I checked bottom of the board also. There is only one.
Isn't it strange?
There is a NEC brand chip close to pcm56p labeled D4053BC which performing as:
"Single 8-Channel, Dual 4-Channel, Triple 2-Channel Analog Multiplexer/Demultiplexe"
Is there any relation of this chip with this issue?

Hi terranigma,
Yes. It is (or was) very common practice.
The data for L & R is sent alternatively and the output is switched back and forth from L & R as well. Many consumer CD players operated in that manner. The 4053 may have one unused section.
