I have a few old parts laying around that I thought it would be fun to play with, although ultimately I would like a very good image from a projector.
The LCD I have is a Sharp 6" LQ6NC02 witha resolution of 720x240. The inputs are composite video or RGB.
If I have to I would sacrifice my PC monitor as I have a nice 20" CRT I could go back to. My PC Monitor is a Samsung 151MP (has VGA, composite, component, and S-Video inputs built in.
I have a 175W Metal Halide buld and Ballast from a reef tank setup.
What do you guys think of useing any of these and do you have recommendations for a projection lens and fresnel lens? I have been reading for days and was hoping you guys could help steer me right.
Thanks!

yes you can use all of those. you should get a triplet lens from a ohp and also a fresnel from a ohp
Just make sure the 175 watt bulb is the right kelvin. I also built my 7" form a halide setup from my reef tank. Tried using a 6500k bulb first cause i had it sitting doing nothing. The whites and blues where out of control, i could not adjust for the color of the bulb. I now use a 4200k ad it works much better. You could also use page magnifiers from staples for the freznel if you want to go on the cheap.😉

Are most of the projection lenses found in OHPs the triplet type? Are there any particular models to avoid or look for because they are much better or worse than others? I had seen some older posts about a lens or two from the Surplus Shed, but I don't see those listed anymore and I'm not sure I'd pick the right one myself.
Thanks a bunch guys!

OHP lenses
Some OHPs use a pair of PCX lenses as a symmetrical duplet. Usually you see one facing down and the other facing forward, with the mirror between them.
Better ones (or even old ones that have been upgraded) use a triplet. It usually points down with nothing after the mirror. Typically, they look something like a wide angle 35 mm camera lens: Thick glass inside a short black metal tube. Maybe with a zoom lever on the side, but I think that is rare.
Look at some of the DIY projector stores online. I have seen triplets for as low as $29. Cheaper than buying an OHP, unless you get one at a yard sale!

Hello! I have a similar sharp lcd, LQ6RA02 but that cannot be stripped, theres a circuit board in the way for half screen, may be same thing on yours so it might not be suitable for a projector. Use the samsung 15" with a OHP, will be better results than fiddling around with the sharp unit.
Excellent, thanks for the info guys.
I was worried that the resolution of the Sharp (720x240) was really not good enough so I am tempted to use the Samsung.

You could use the sharp with a dvd player in the car for example, thats what i have my lcd for, for use to watch movies as i don´t have a tv.
