I am thinking of purchasing a Nakamichi car tape (TD-700) player for archiving some of my tapes as it has azimuth adjustment.
That said, since I do not have the player with me yet, I wanted to ask - what kind of output does the TD-700 produce? Can I use the output directly as a "line level" input to a digital recorder (Edirol R-09) OR do I need to feed it to some home amp and then use the the home amp line level output for feeding to my digital recorder.
I know home stereos run on 8 Ohms while car stereos run on 4 Ohms, but that is for output sent to the car speakers...Does the TD-700 have other kind of output as well?
My issue is that I want to use the Nak deck to playback (power by a DC power supply) and want to directly capture the output into my Edirol R-09 recorder.
Is this at all possible...I am new to car audio and wondering if my theory will work or not...And not knowing what outputs the TD-700 has is making it harder for me to know.
Please help!

If it has a line level output ( 2V or less approx. ) yes.
If it has RCA output jacks, yes
If it is a powered output designed to be attached directly to speakers NO

The TD700 is preamp level only, switchable 500mV or 1000mV. You should be able to run it directly into the recorder.
Beware that it's not really a "line level" because it runs through the volume control. If you're going to be recording from it, be careful not to disturb the volume knob.
The preamp is pretty clean, I've been able to use mine at full volume without noticeable distortion.
