Build at least 3 identical DACs, all with active parts from the same batches. AFAIK I made a batch of 8.

Use different passives like electrolytic caps of the same value but from another brand/series in only 1 of them. Don’t say anything, call the DACs A, B and C and make sure they can not be seen. Invite fellow builders and hardliner objectivists, listen together and ask their opinion. Measure with them afterwards.

Easier than comparison of entirely different devices especially when they have “features” like changeable filters that have influence.

Still confusing.

It is apparent why higher technical education and subsequent experience is not free. The OP asked simply can you hear the difference between two (regardless of type manufacturer or technology applied or samples per hour or filter types and slopes or any post processing employed) in two or more DACs that apparently measures (specified) the same. No discussion was required about phase noise, distortion SINAD or anything else since these according to the OP should be virtually identical. It is either a YES or NO and maybe between the product brands you listened at. He may want some ideas of a short list to which he may purchase a product that may suit his needs. In 143 post so far, there seems to be no conclusion so nobody can say neither here or there. I would say that I definitely hear a difference between a Wadia6 CD player and a topping D50 DAC, connected to the same transport. The topping sounds cool almost cynical while the Wadia sounds more refined but warmer. Unfortunately the Topping has far better specifications than the almost 30 year old Wadia
EDIT: I have no idea but the Wadia may even use a Realtec DAC found in laptops, who knows.

Do these measure the same/equally well?

Like the thread title says.

You edit faster than your own shadow but when they don’t measure equally well what do you expect? They both are different and measure differently, them sounding the same would be a miracle.

I don't think any really. When I bought the old Wadia, I don't even think that the specifications mattered. It does no now either. I listen to things and I like or I don't like what I hear. This is the option we all have. Once you start asking what is inside then you want to show off that you know a thing or two about it.

Here is the only data I could find on HiFiengine about the Wadia6. The topping is clearly the better machine that the Wadia, but I enjoy the Wadia more, I use the topping on my PC not because I want to, I got it for a present from my wife and therefor I have to use it.

Yes, the mind has strange ways. We can become attached to certain things. I really enjoyed listening to my old Rotel 950 CD player this week. It cost £250 back in 1996. No flaws were apparent.

Miller, I also had a Rotel CD975 that I traded on the Wadia, I thought because the Wadia was so expensive it was better and the salesman told me so many facts that it stunned my own wisdom. Until today, I am sorry that I got rid of the Rotel. I had some problkems with the CD tray gear stripped, but got one from an importer for about $0.40 and the problem was solved. If you did not know the Rotel CD tray and mechanism is from Phillips.
