After reading about the DIY Projectors at /. I`m DEFO interested in getting involved in making one, just have one question.

From the designs I have seen so far there seems to be ones that have the light source shine through the LCD screens and others that bounce off of it (this page has designs from both types http://www.audiovisualizers.com/madlab/lcd_proj.htm).

Just wondering what experiences people have had with both and what people think is the best type??????

Many thanks and keep up the good work everybody!!!!!!

Passing through one definitely!

The other won't work in a easy source of light and lens setup, A slide projector.

Also, the reflective requires a way to send the three different colors, RGB, to the panel at a specific time.

The higher res panels of this type are expensive also. 1-2k$

You can get higher res panels of the transmissive type for ~100$ that are almost twice as high in resolution compared to the reflective (530x240 vs 320x240), for now.

The reflective is good because it gives a better black-level or contrast. Just not as good a resolution for now unless you want to spend in the $1000 range and beyond.

Samsung won an award recently for their front projection tv that uses this hi-res reflective style.
