Can A valve amplifier be both Class A and Class B?

Ok, thanks DF96. I suppose the most direct route is to just have a volume control, which should give the purest playback ie. as close to the way the music was originally recorded.

no, thats not what it is

the point is that tubeamps usually have much higher input impedance, and hence works perfect with just a pot/att 😉

and most modern CD have plenty of output

not so in the old days of vinyl and radios, where nothing worked without a preamp

modern SS poweramps usually wont need any preamp either
but their lower input impedance needs a buffered att
