This is a dumb question and I think I know the answer, I just like reassurance. Can you use a gainclone in a car stereo?
Just use a stepup transformer to turn 12V into whatever, or is there enough amperage in a car power system to use 12V?

This would be for main speakers, not Subwoofers. It seems like a easy way to add ample power to your car and not having a huge box that is flashy and cost a ton.

Heck you could even attach the gainclone (with how small they are) to the speaker itself and have nicely hidden fully powered system.

Converting the 12V supply to a higher voltage is actually quite tricky as you need to use a switching supply of some sort. I'd recomend just using the lower power LM1875 and bridging it on the standard automotive voltage. Depends on how much power you want. This will give you a high quality amplifer but not a very powerfull one. Also bare in mind automotive power tends to be very noisy with high frequency noise so you may want to improve the power supply filtering over a standard gain clone.

Hope this helps, Andrew.
