It's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, but any thoughts/biased opinions on each of these speakers? I am very impressed with the reputations of the men responsible for each, and the actual/potential performance of each speaker. Yes, the Statement II has a track record, and the BMR Tower is new on the scene, and yes, one speaker is a major diy project and the other is a finished product.
Assuming I had the means to properly build the Statement II, and I wanted to achieve the highest quality audio along with high spl output, how do you think the two would compare when used for the purpose of 2 channel music rather than HT?
I would like to preface this inquiry with the intention of not denigrating anyone.

I thought Dennis Murphy closed down his DIY speaker business, but Meniscus Audio sells the BMR components. And SalkSound may still sell the finished speakers. Erin measured the BMR monitors here: Philharmonic BMR Bookshelf Speaker Review.
You could also ask over at htguide.com. Several people there have built the Statements.

The BMR is only 86dB so either will need some power behind them.
I've run 85 dB on super low power and been happy; but I realize I listen at pretty low levels.

audiojerry, why have you started another thread, and why is it in full range?

6 years ago I had a pair of Statement II: High performance, reasonable price, large 100L cabinet, DIY build or kit only. 88.5dB/2.83V. Max SPL > 105dB.
I had to sell it due to a house move. :-(
Philharmonic BMR Tower:
Same deep bass, but smaller more manageable cabinet, thus slightly lower sensitivity: 86dB/2.83V. Comes already built in gorgeous timber or piano gloss black. Just connect and enjoy.
I've got a BMR Tower on order... I hope that helps your decision.

Of these 2, Statements. An 83dB sensitive speaker is at least 10dB too low for me.
Nope, they are 87 - 88 db and are easy to drive with any amp/receiver capable of a 4 ohm load.
Jim
Apologies. Looking back I was referring to the monitor, not the tower and took the 83dB from the BMR specs plus some measurements I found. Nonetheless, way too inefficient for my tastes.Nope, they are 87 - 88 db and are easy to drive with any amp/receiver capable of a 4 ohm load.

Thanks for correcting me Jim.
The Statements II is 87-88dB. I should have said 87.5dB, not 88.8dB
Brett was talking about BMR Tower, which he assumed was 83dB. But more accurately it is 85-86dB/2.83V.
It terms of sensitivity of 2dB difference, I don't get too excited. It isn't a key differentiator IMHO.
I tend to think in terms of 3/6/10dB to make a difference in amplifier requirements (half, quarter, 1/10th voltage drive)

I’m going to say try the BMR’s at the very least.
I’m working on a build with the CSS. 4.5” BMRs as an extended midrange from 100hz up, crossing to some Dayton Esoteric amt tweeters at the high end (xover still tbd) and Dayton 10” paper woofers on the low end.
The BMR drivers are absolutely excellent for instruments, vocals and oddly shaped listening rooms. Off-axis is absolutely stellar and brings a very lifelike soundstage, but can lack the razor sharp imaging of other setups like coaxial drivers. They also do fantastic job with movies - Dune is crazy good with them.
Sensitivity may be an issue but if you can get past that I recommend them highly.
