Cambridge R50 maintenance and testing

Hi,

Firstly excuse the wallpaper... not long moved in and well just not decorated yet 😉

Recently got some nice R50's with very heavy metal plinths. Primarily I got them as my wee man is autistic (non verbal and no concept of danger) and needed speakers he couldn't push over. Also the sound I like seemed to be what most people said these do well. Quality deep defined bass even at lower volume levels, nice soundstage and lastly because proper TL's placement is less of an issue (which being they need to be closer in to wall and either side of fireplace was a massively good thing)...

So now i've had them a few weeks i reckon I need to think about making them the best I can as they are 40 yr old. They already have falcon crossovers (will check version when I look inside) and t27's were replaced with a matched pair about 1yr ago.

Can I test the b139 (earlier racetrack but black surround), b110 and coles 4001g with a multimeter in ohm to see if they are still in good ball park for being in spec??? if I can test like this what am I looking for?

Guess next job is fluffing up and putting back the lambswool as it'll be likely a bit tired (any hints tips for this obviously can only do what I can reach).

Lastly I guess only other things for best performance is possibly update internal wiring and when I put it all back together a little bluetack to seal baffle to cabinet and drivers to baffle.

Any other ideas for things to check and/or improvements I can make?

The metal plinth has a hollow inside so will maybe add some more mass inside plinth (though more as an extra weight to help stop wee man toppling as he gets older) plinth slightly widens base and allows spikes which i'll also be doing when the spike shoes are here.

Thanks for any thoughts and advice. New to serious mucking about with speakers and have had a good search online at what others have been up to but know all the members on here are superb and i'll get best advice rather than wondering if I'm going in correct direction 😉

Measuring the resistance of the drivers may only show whether they are functional or not as resistance shouldn't change with their state of wear...If you are going to use blue tak why not take the opportunity to experiment with rubber collars around the mounting screws for a soft mount?

I don`t often get on here but i did notice in your pics. that the fronts are on upside down......the cross pieces should not go across the speakers.

That plastic badge will come off as it is held with sticky tape on the phase 2`s the phase 1`s as mine are don`t have the badges.
