Cambridge P50 funky tape loop.

Hi,

I have an old Cambridge Audio P50 amp that seems to have weird tape facilities. Here's the problem:
When using the tape monitor switch, I can only control the volume via a sensitivity pot in the back of the amplifier, and the balance does not work. Using the tape in the aux or radio inputs, everything is okay.

Is this normal? I cannot imagine that the tape function is designed this way?
OTOH, the sensitivity pot in the back has quite a large knob; something that looks designed for "easy" use?

Again, help/circuit diagram would help..

Hi Nicolas,

I have one of these amps and I have some odd switching behavour. In the end I gave up on it and just connected everything through a switch box (the P50 didn't have enough inputs anyway).

I had it on the bench a while ago to replace some of the now very old and dried up caps and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I just though my amp was knackered.

If you do get a cct diagram for it I'd love to get a copy.

normally tape output level is fixed, and the volume,
tone and balance controls do not affect it.
This perfectly sensible design.
The only thing unusual is the variable output level.
