Chassis just ok, deplorable sound, mediocre implementation and yet I am an old fan of Cambridge Arcam.
if it is to play/learn I will try the modification in TIP, but clearly, to have a nice and reliable device I would put a pair of PCB AB like MF 50 in it and that's it.
And yes, it is clearly a personal opinion that is not at all objective 😁
If the TIPs work, they work. One can always try it. But twice now I’ve had to pull them out and put in Sankens. My supply is dwindling, and I dont use enough of them to justify ordering 1000 of them. So TIPs get tried first because there is no shortage of them.
As far as deplorable and mediocre implementation, I’m a fan of PL, too. But I do fix the “fixable” gross problems when I work on one (the unfixable unfortunately stays). If TIPs do work and you want something stronger than the 142/7, there is the MJH1102x series. Prices are through the roof but they are solid.
