Cambridge 640C V1 CD player tray motor/mech questions

Hi, I found one of these at a yard sale in non-working condition and have since thanks to online tips managed to replace the laser mechanism. This was not the issue, however; the motor which opens and closes the tray or its associated electronics is. I've replaced the belt (needed it; got several items from mcmelectronics and one fit). I've gotten the service manual for the 640C V1 however it's not much help. And in the process of examining it I've removed the tray/drawer without first undoing all of the stops, and I've broken off a tooth, so I'll need a new drawer as well. This unit is for a friend who loves music and is in hard times financially so any help would be greatly appreciated.

-Need to replace the tray/drawer, if anyone knows of a compatible device or the same one as used in other devices and if so, its part number
-Need to suss the tray motor issue, no references found online...worst case, I suppose I could search the net for any text I find upon it
-One bit about the new laser mechanism...I've read that such things ship with a solder blob across a couple of pins to prevent damage in shipment from static, and that it must be desoldered prior to use...please advise if this is the case for this mechanism and I'll take care of it when next disassembling...

Thank you for any assistance. I had a pair of Snell EIII which needed some work and we've just gotten them finished and singing for him; now it's time to replace the Sony CD changer he's using. (Loving my Shigaclone and TP Opus Wolfson DAC; hoping the Wolfson in the 640 is at the same level). Peace!
