Calibrate DMM

Ake,
I have this one, not exactly cheap (beware of shipping and customs fees) but way cheaper than high end stuff and I like it:

DMMCHECKplus - Voltage Standard, Calibration Reference

It will give you a good idea about how a DMM or even other instruments work (if you include capacitor and inductance options).

It comes calibrated, and they provide a reasonably priced calibration service.

Did you miss my link above? Welectron is located in Germany, so no customs fees.

There's a lot of voltage reference based on the AD584 for $10-20, like this one. They're all over Aliexpress too.

First- try to find the one meter close to a battery Voltage( few examples in this thread) Next post the innards of that meter with showing what is the deviation from battery voltage. if the deviation is within acceptable percentage- you need not even calibrate. Cheapest Fluke new Basic 101 DMM has an accuracy of 0.5% DC Volt- costs around 60$ new. If you look at Fluke 87 has 0.05% DC Volt- legendary DMM. Based on the simple battery test you will know what to do next! If it does not meet 0.5% accuracy, my suggestion is to throw them out. I will confidently buy an used Fluke 87 and trust it.
I actually possess 2 Fluke 867 because it also shows me waveform while trouble shooting audio circuits but expensive. I also use HP 34401 if i need accuracy.

I think 0.1 V difference on the 50 or 20V scale does not matter in hobby or initial troubleshooting use.
And you can get that much variation due to battery voltage and temperature.
How many of you are using the more voltage stable Alkaline and Lithium batteries in your meter?
How many meters use a TL431 or similar reference built in?
How many are in constant temperature environment?

Get real guys...and ladies.

Sorry no. Anyway, their prices were way too high, in the end I decided to use US for integrating inductance option on mine.
Should they offer a reasonably priced recalibration, sure, why not?

I bought DMMCheck plus some time ago, shipping was not that expensive at time time, possibly even skipped customs.

Now is different.

I would be vary of low cost Chinese references, this one gets properly "aged" and receive a certificate. Sure it is not NIST traceable blah blah, still good enough.

We should encourage a club purchase (for example, me being a ham for my local ARI club in Milan) it is not something everybody should buy, just have access to it when needed.
