Weren't you wanting to know how to calculate the volume of the enclosure????
Correct but I also queried the difference of inferior wood materials and standing waves.
Typically, standing waves are not an issue in a sub enclosure, as the wavelength of the frequencies involved are larger than the box dimension
Which makes sense to me being that at 45hz they are 7.6m (according to an online calculator). However, I cannot dispute a very obvious clarity difference between the two boxes. To me it sounded like a ringing similar to when you turn the ring modulation up on a subtractive synthesiser just a little on some frequencies in the cardboard box.
Take your preferred position here!
Thank you for the link. The plot thickens. I don't say MDF is the way to go because I'm sure part of the effect is due to a different box volume and mounting angle too, but I can say that it was clearly more to my satisfaction than the compressed cardboard eBay box.
I agree that different wood creates a different sound signature as I have been a classical guitarist spoilt with access to many different guitars through connections and the wood makes a significant difference to the resonance, sustain and attack of the sound.
Ok thread closed. 😉
