I remember seeing a 2 condenser directional receiver project in some magazine, don't know if that is of any advantage.

Sounds like an idea, (More reading in the line, (rapidly forming list on my scratch pad..).😱 .. I'll have to check out the physical placement or whatever of it..

"this is my first try,at ANYTHING, ('cept for a Crystal Radio when I was 12-13,)" ...
It may have to await my attaining a better working knowledge of Electronics/Circuits etc: ...
Deferring to the expertise of the wonderful folks on here, and their info, I AM going to stay away from the Cadmium Sulphide idea though, ..There is a partially constructed Parabolic Dish sitting on my workbench, then I'll be studying a mic that will suffice OR that I can learn enough about to be able to modify it's strength. (

Got a Mic
Hi ..
Got me a mic, (well, Sort of) Friend works at her local TV station ..NOT Here.. and she has sent me a 797 CR8116 Condenser Mic,apparently the tech said it had been sitting 'round for a while and that she could have it, As Is, no promises it works ... it is only the Mic, not the complete unit with the adjustable arm and base, .. am looking to find diag then work out IF I can work on/modify it etc:..Will this be OK ???

I would be tempted to find a used satellite dish and mount it at the focal point! You would need a preamplifier and that can be built as star832 pointed to, or it could be something found at the local second hand store. Perhaps a used stereo amp with headphone output.

That be it, Just the Mic , little worried tho, story is it was at an outside broadcast and got knocked into an esky full of Ice/Ice Water ...
I am awaiting the full circuitry diagram before I even take it apart...will let you know if it is useable
