Cable TV's version of "the loudness wars"

A viewer noted that the Munchkins from "The Wizard of Oz" seemed to have their voices pitched "up courtesy of Turner Broadcasting's TBS cable network.

Lo had behold, the network has been cutting out seemingly "redundant" video frames, and speeding up the video in an attempt to free up more minutes for advertising. HAH!

I've seen some stunning ones where they pushed the envelope. This has the side benefit of creating rumors of missing footage when the released running time does not match. Another one I hate is the "blended" anamorphic aspect ratio where heads go thick to thin as they walk across the screen, instant HD version.
