Bypassing output filter capacitors

Has anyone here actually tried to bypass those parts in the output filter on a typical class D amp?

I am think the smaller (1000pf) value, likely higher Q parts would be more effective at attenuation of the switching frequencies. Not that there wouldn’t be a risk of possible resonance with other parts in certain situations, however with the typically provided polyester film parts I can hardly see that being an issue.
 
So that’s a no then; haven’t tried it then?

Lately, the multi-layer boards haven’t exactly been playing nicely when it comes to r&r of parts on the output. The risk of adding another component onto the existing leads of another is more appealing than the near certain death of another board.

What’s a switching capacitor btw?

I can believe that any parasitic elements will affect the performance of the amp, have already seen how the examples that are using the smaller, smd inductors are less finicky than the ones with larger parts. Is probably why cable lengths are mentioned in data sheets too.

I noticed that on page ten of that application guide that they specifically discuss multiple bypasses to cover a spread in frequencies. I didn’t see anything about switching capacitors mentioned however, but maybe I missed it. I’m well aware of how regulators are stabilized by the use of capacitors on the outputs as was the intent of the application note.



Guess I’ll have to just try it on one of these extra boards here that only have one functional channel and see what I come up with.
