Bypassing filter caps with Smaller caps

I installed a socket onto the filter caps in an amplifier, so that I could install a bypass cap there - in real time. I plugged it in out - during listening. Did a very extensive test.

I could not hear any difference at all. Absolutely nothing.

Before that, I used to install them blindly, and then just assume it made a difference. I really thought I could hear it. Obviously I was deluding myself.

Good to hear.
What type of amp was it applied to ? I have my doubts that it would make enough of a difference in a gNFB amp where the sort of changes would be smoothed out. My amps use local feedback.

this is the power supply filter bank composed of 12 x 2200ufd/450volt computer grade caps, no bypass caps were used....

McIntosh used bypass caps back in the day and they were the biggest bunch of hard-core hard numbers guys around. They also didn't have modern caps with modern high frequency capability..

As for listening tests, if someone tells me they improve things, I'd believe him. OTOH, if someone says it hurts the sound somehow - I'd have a hard time buying that.

These are 58 cent parts.

If I have to strain myself to hear a difference then it's not worth my time, since that's not how I listen to music. If it's not audibly significant, I don't sweat it. I chase pleasure not perfection.

I am not a golden ear nor do I want to so I will let someone else to enjoy the AB test while I go spin another record.
