One exampe is accupuncture.
The Western medicine used to laugh at it, despite the 1.6 billion Chinese and their thousand years' history as evidence. Only slowly, with academic exchanges and first hand experiences, do some people from the West begins to accept that it does work even if they don't know why.
People brought up in the East are more ready to accept things as they are, and not always try to find a rational explanation for it.
It's a cultural thing, I guess.

No, and why would anyone think any differently just because you want a specific bit of test gear? Jack Bybee discovered this effect, so I'll assume he has a method of measuring the properties of the device. Speaking about measuring the properties, he (Jack) must have some type of QC so they can quantify the finished goods.

No, I have been as truthful as I can be, under the circumstances of not being believed when I do state what I think. Sometimes I just give up trying, however.
That we don't understand how it works. Although true believers in acupuncture won't agree with what the science community says is the active mechanism.
Acupucture gets payed by the German health asurance system, Homeopathy not although a lot of my friends swear on it.
My GP does acupuncture. He suggested it once as a means to reduce some lymph node inflammation I had. His way of doing so was asking if I am inclined to believe it works. I didn't pursue this, but it seems he has found a correlation between thinking it works and it working... Sound familiar?
I have a similar opinion on acupuncture. Whatever works. Yet I bet there is a group of some people, somewhere who think that acupuncture is a hoax to get big money from true believers, and that it should be abolished. Same with hi end design, including Bybee devices.
Its not about whether it works or not (either in health or some high-end audiophile equipment) - its about the honesty around the mechanism of the effect. Unfortunately, in both instances, honesty would likely destroy the effect.
Nor demonstrate THAT it works. You just gotta have faith and pay him money to "try it."

Thats not quite true John - he seems QUITE sure about the mechanism here. Certainly, he makes no statement about being unsure of the mechanism and in fact goes to some lengths to describe the mechaism in terms of traffic movement.
If by CAN'T you mean sworn to secrecy by shady govt agencies... Well, yeah.
John dismisses anything said on the website as being written by Bybee's accountant or his gardener or someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.
