Hi!
This question is basicaly for Scott and Dave:
What is the theory of the BVR calculation and planing?
I mean, how you choose the :
- chamber volume
- horn throat size
- horn mouth size
- horn lenght

Depends on the driver, design goals & a host of other factors TBH, so no simple answer, let alone a single answer I'm afraid. Did you have a specific driver in mind? I'm away for a few days but if so, I'll try to help out when I get back & have chance.

Not, yet. You should use for demonstration a driver from one of your design.Did you have a specific driver in mind?

Hi Scott, wow this would be amazing to peek inside your methodology.
Having heard your Harveys (built by Mssr. Phil Townsend), I am still haunted by how great and inexplicably huge they sound. One felt "bathed" in sound. That system (in that room etc.) is to date my standard of audio perfection.
For some reason, horns and horn-like speakers just cry out to be understood. I'm on my third year of trying but it's a tough slog.

Half-Chili would fill that role. Do keep in mind that the Changs have superceded Harvey/Iris/Bruce.

Hi Dave, I was thinking very literally of a box with an expo vent, since Tyimo was one of the original enthusiasts for the Replikon, and he was very keen to understand it. (And there is still something magical about Harvey - maybe the big mouth area and path length?)
Yes, it is true. On the end of that discourse I understanded the Replikon sucessfuly. 🙂 I built some Replikon style loudspeaker with great result. That Hornlautsprecher theory is realy works.since Tyimo was one of the original enthusiasts for the Replikon, and he was very keen to understand it.
Now I would like to understand the BVR's theory what is similar to the Replikons.(some way...)
Tyimo
Yes, but the way how Ralf and Till from Hornlautsprecher calculating and designing is a bit different from yours. I think....😉The Replikon is a specific example of a BVR.

Hi Scott,Did you have a specific driver in mind?
I would like to build BVR with this Sonido SFR200 http://www.sonido.hu/adat_pdf/sfr/sfr200-8.pdf
Do you think that it is suitable for that purpose? What housing do you recommend ? I think that of Half Chang will fit nicely, do you suggest any corrections in the design.
I think most of us will be grateful if you explain BVR design process and considerations.
Thank you in advance !
Hi Minko
how recently did you buy your sfrs. I've been trying for ages to contact Sonido by email, but I get no replies

Hi Vitalstates,
I bought them second hand, but a week before I wrote to Istvan (sonido@interware.hu)
and he readily gave me info about prices, shipping, technical specs, etc.
He is very kind man and I think that one will have any problem with buying speakers from him.

thanks Minko
that is a different email address to the one I have from a while back. I will try again.

Hi Dave!
These old question are not answered yet....
Could you answer them?

Scott designs the BVRs not me, and i don't think he is letting all his hard won techniques out of the bag.
Have a look at the Replikon thread... it covers at least some of this.

BVR as by Abraham Cohen of University Sound were common in the 1950's. Many of those had vents about 1/2 meter long and could provide gain in the "hit" region (depending upon driver strength) AJ-Horn (costly) will model them and assume Hornresp can do it too. Once a simulation looks workable then it can be built and tested.
