I had some help from an electronics wizard and we worked out what the problem is.
Because it was connected to a PC with a switching power supply and because the filtering system on this particular amplifier isn't all that good the frequency from the switching power supply on the PC is transmitting through the mains circuit to the amp.
We tested this by connecting the amp to a laptop which was running on battery. All the buzzing went away.
So my friend recommends I get a filter for the mains lead into the amplifier. Can anybody recommend any pre-built filters I can plug in to clean up the power going into the amp.
