Hi all,
I have three power amplifiers, namely two X150.5 and one X3 that are used on a 5.1 system and I use a Denon 4311 AVR as preamp (I know it’s not pure HiFi preamp…).
I just received a Furman SPR-16Ei which is a high-end stable power voltage regulator / power conditioner that caught me almost 3000$.
When I plug my amps to the Furman SPR-16Ei, sometimes I can hear a continuous buzz. This buzz is coming from the X3 amplifier and not from the speakers as it happens when speaker cables are unconnected and while nothing else is connected or switched on hence it is not a ground loop hum.
This noise is sometime increased if I connect my pre-amp to the Furman SPR-16Ei and turn it on but the noise does not increase if I increase the volume from the preamp.
I used to have similar noises before but I thought it was coming from a bad power voltage.
Have you already experienced such things on your amps?
Thanks for your help.
G.

It sounds like maybe the noise is actually the transformer itself buzzing. I assume it stops buzzing when you don't use the power conditioner.
buzzing could indicate there is DC present on the mains, but it would seem that the power conditioner is introducing it. Anyway If it is only with the power conditioner I would be taking it back 🙂

I almost forgot to mention that the noise disapear if I plug my X3 amp directly to a wall plate.
Thanks Tony but I spent a huge amount of money on that @#!§ power conditioner hoping that it would solve my initial problem and it would break my heart not using it...lol

That's why I say take it back and get your money back!! if it makes things worse then look elsewhere for fixing whatever issue you have 🙂 If I'd paid $3000 for something that stuffed up my system it would be back to the shop immediately!! don't delay take it back straight away, or you may end up with a very expensive door stop.
At the very least tell them the problem you are experiencing 🙂

No problem. You never know they might say, oh you need to do X. There is also the possibility it is a faulty unit 🙂
