I was surprised to see this. I would have thought almost all "record buyers" would at least have some cheap record player to play their "vinyls" on:

This was in a vaguely related article on record sales not rising the way it had for years earlier.50% of consumers who had bought vinyl over the previous 12 months don’t even own a record player.

Just another nonsense fluff article. There were two of those "vinyl sales crashing" articles posted on another forum, so this is probably the news feed du jour for January.

Not surprised. The novelty of holding physical media is interesting and desirable, and as we all know, cover art and liner notes are their own bit of wonderfulness.
As for sales not rising as quickly as before, the way it's framed is a bit misleading because although the previous two years had mind-boggling sales growth, it is still increasing, though not at meteoric rates.
Sales are still up.

Probably the inside badge that allows to download the tracks in MP3.
Better: the various Crosley are not classified under turntables so these gadgets belong to multimedia.
One month ago I read Happy Birthday CD - 40 years, Born Perfect !!!

As a DJ I dont miss having to carry hundreds of records or CD's into and out of a gig every night.
I can carry 10,000+ tracks on my laptop instead.

Reminds me the cover art of Pink Floyd's 'Relics' ...was around '72(Note headphones, horn speaker.)
When I read: "When it comes to vinyl, Taylor Swift is clearly bigger than The Beatles" ......... 🙄
They miss half a Ton of IFs, BUTs, YETs and a million other qualifiers.

"Vinyl isn't about the music any more..."
So true, yet so sad. Recently, I began revisiting my vinyl usage. Some of this for me is about memories. That is how old I am.
I had a discussion with my 43 year old son yesterday on our return from our physical media shopping trip. He is a movie collector, which he sort of inherited from me. For him, it is obtaining used Blue Ray reissues of movies. He brought up the point about some people collecting VHS copies of rare movies for the sake of them being an investment. My response is that I had hoped that these VHS collectors were not planning on actually watching the movies. The pristine copy could be quickly devalued if the machine eats the tape. I used the analogy of a co-worker's wife who once collected Precious Moments figurines. Also, I had recently read about an alleged resurgence in audio cassettes. C'mon man! I used cassettes long beyond their usefulness. I like buying used vinyl because I can clean it up and most of it is moderately playable. I recently restored my 40 year old Technics SL-D2 turntable. Vinyl has utilitarian value. For those who do not care about the music, that is their loss. No wonder why there are those videos circulating about a minimalist lifestyle. I could go on and on. I just wanted to let you fine folks know that I appreciate you covering this topic.

There´s a huge market based on people who buy climbing-the-Himalaya rated , fully equipped 4x4 trekking/excursion Jeeps ... and use them to go pick the groceries 10 minutes away, so I´m not surprised, same thing, dazzle-the-nighbours-only stuff.
Hey, my own Sister who lives in very residential Orange County drives one!
Then she complains it´s a gas guzzler 😉

That website is just another internet-wasting bunch of consumerism-propoganda-crap designed to manipulate people's thoughts, bank accounts, and keep the sheep herds in line.I was surprised to see this. Right now is the time to scarf up used CDs, which tend to go for $5.
Used records are $12 if it's something they think you'll recognize, then $20+ for things they know you'll recognize.
This is in the wilds of Maine.

Used to visit charity shops to buy second hand. There's hardly anything around. Not sure if it's because they're sold in bulk to traders and never get to the shelves, or if people are just more aware and selling them instead of giving them to charity shops...
