buying a panny instead of amp1

I was going to build an amp 1 because of the 4ohm capability which greatly expands the options with DIY speakers. There is a catch with it requiring an oddball transformer 300VA 2x22V in order to run 4ohm. There are 2x22V 185VA transformers at Digikey but there really aren't any public power supply designs which show how to hook up 2 transformers to get +-30V.

I am back to picking up a panasonic SA70 reciever, yes it limits me to 6ohm or higher speakers but I think I will be happy with it based on my experience with the XR SA25.

I'm thinking of going the other way - I currently own a Panasonic XR50, and I'm wondering whether the currently available class D/T amp kits will provide an upgrade in sound quality?

The Panasonic Australia website lists the a high retail price compared to the US retail...

I paid roughly 600 at a Betta Electrical, early this year, so prices should have come down a lot I guess. They were cheaper than JB Hifi and a few other retailers I bothered to ring.
