Hey folks, first post.
Sorry if its a bit newbish.

I recently purchase a small amplifier/transducer package.
Bought from Europe, assuming it has a switching power supply like most modern electronics/amps.

Not the case.

Any chance I can swap this power supply and fuse and call it a day? or do you recommend a step up converter? is that even advised on an amp of this size (its tiny)
probably to be used for several hours at a time.

or am I humped?

thank you

That thing HAS a switching power supply, not saying huge, but probably enough for its spec. So what more do you want?
On the second picture, the upper left half of the electronics all belong to the supply.

Not a bad spec and it has a SMPS built in. A bit pricey though!

  • 90 Watts @ 2 ohms
  • Can power 1 mini-Concert or 2 mini-LFE's
  • Variable high cutoff, 40 - 160 Hz
  • Low cutoff, 25 Hz switchable
  • RCA input with 75 mVolt sensitivity
  • Digital
  • Convection cooled (no fan)
  • Banana jack outputs
  • Included banana plug adapters for bare speaker wire
  • Convenient side mounting flanges
Applications:

  • HT- Home Theater
  • M- Musician
  • G- Gaming

pretty neat little unit, but it says right here for 240/euro only. (or 120v only avail for canada/usa)

mine is definitely the 240 unit and it says NON switching power supply...

Can you please elaborate on that post?

Or maybe the 240v/euro version is switchable downwards, but the 120 cant go up?

i know when i plug it in, it powers on, but i have not been able to get it working.
mind you i stopped pretty quickly when i read 240 only

thank you

The photo you show is of a SMPS type. The transformer and switching transistor heatsink is clearly visible.

understood, but smps alone could be 200-240 instead of 120-240 correct?
meaning my 120 outlet is not sufficient

i spoke with the manufacturer, they said there are two completely different units for 120v and 240v countries. different pcb, transformers, etc.

they advise I return, but this wont work as the cost of shipping is more than me buying a step up converter....

unless you guys have any other suggestions?

If it is a 230-240V only version (that's what is printed on it...), then no wonder it will not start from 120V 🙁. Bummer.
And it says: 240V (AC) only non-switchable, not "non switching power supply"
