Bulb bursting Question!

Hi,

I have had problems with bulbs dying really fast in my yamaha lpx500 (rebadged epson tw-100).

It uses regular 150w bulbs that go into most projectors. When I first got the projector, it had bulbs that have a round gap between the front glass and the reflector, like this picture:

but the newer ones I tried as replacements are sealed, lie this one:

the sealed lamps work for about 20 hours, then the bulb in the center seems to melt and pop open. Im guessing its because they overheat. I also fits a bare bulb for ywh into a reflector, but that also melted.

But what I dont understand is why. Surely the sealed lamps must work in the projectors they were designed for without overheating. And they must work at the same power as they are all 150w bulbs. So what gives?

Do you think I could use a 120W bulb instead? That would not get so hot I think...
