I would change the time constant between the two stages by lowering the coupling capacitor to 47nF. Just my two pennies.

Was the kit you bought 'all octal' ?
Did you use the kit chassis?
You built with the kit schematic and then modified it later?

this is the kit I brought totally mod it replaced the 6N9P with 40 year old 12AX7 and put 6@330uf caps in the power side which smooth the power supply.

A vacuum rectifier feeding a huge capacitor bank will not last very long. I hope you didn't increase the reservoir cap, but just the smoothing caps.

Did you use one or two 12AX7 tubes?

I did 2 tube amp the 1 I'm talking about with 6@330uf has no rectifier tube I did a solid state bridge rectifier like the pic attach

I used 1@12AX7 for a stereo amplifier works great and as I have 3 of these old 12ax7 I did another tube amp with 2@12ax7 with E34L and because I have 2@ 6N3C I BUILT a tube amp so when I play Jazz I get the best sound.
