I'd suggest you build the cubo extended and make sure the box is as tight as possible, air leaks and loose panels will seriously degrade performance. Listening to a sub alone is generally gonna sound bad, there is a lot content much further up the spectrum that is critical for a coherent sense of impact and dynamics, so you won't bet a good sense of overall performance until you have a fullrange sound system in place.
Also note that you will definitely need some processing(low cut filter, crossover, EQ) once you get a proper Pro amp if you want to keep the drivers alive, a box like the Cubo offers no low frequency protection at all to the driver so you need to supply that or the driver can be easily damaged.

Extended it is then!
Can you explain more about how really low frequencies can be bad? I thought I just get something like an active crossover, and all I have to worry about is limiting how high HZ I feed the woofer, not how low...
it's called over excursion as in: oops that 15 hz subsonic tore the surround and mangled the spider!
high passing a cubo at 30 HZ will not adversely affect the performance but protects the driver from mechanical damage from over excursion.
the box doesn't trap a volume of air like an infinite baffle would(making the trapped air act like as resistive spring to low frequencies)
