Have you finished your DIY project successfully?
Do you have plans on paper to build a projector that (+/-) works?
Any schematics / plans / scans / pics.... to help construct a projector can be posted here!
Also pics of finished projectors are welcome!

Simple Plans

Where can I get some simple plans just to get me started I dont want to go directly from some elses plans just some thing to get started and the basics on how to use a LCD screen. Ill be using a perfectly good Sony Digital camera for some of my parts.

In process

I am currently in the process of building my projector and should have it finnished over the Christmas holidays (if the final two parts arrive :bawling: ) Once it is finnished I will post pics on the build and projection results. I working on a vertical design built into a 24" by ~5' sonotube (might downsize to a 20").

I'm doing allmost the exact same thing...I think sonotube will make a great "box" LOL The only thing I'm doing different is putting my lamp at the top of the tube (hopefully) I havent worked out how long the unit would have to be to keep the projection lens off the floor and at a reasonable hight. All the gear is working now so it's just a matter of trials and building the "box". The top mounted lamp is to aid in keeping heat away from the LCD, radiated heat (from the beam) will be handled by a sheet of lowE glass, transmitted heat should hopefully obey the law (heat rises)

Top vs. Bottom

Yeah, I ideally wanted to put the light in the top but decided against it for two reasons. One was that it would be a more difficult build working against gravity. Two, you ant you lens at the correct projection height which is usually just over the middle of the rooms height. Based on how tall I gestimated the projector being, i felt that a bottom based lens wouldn't leave me enough ceiling height for the projector in an average room. It will be interesting to compare the two designs when they are done. If I can just get the electrics working I should be done this weekend!!

My father has a 3.5 foot "gass lift" cylinder he's going to send me...kinda like whats on an office chair...only rediculasly tall for a chair 😉 This way when I want to use it I push down on the lever and the PJ rises to my desired height. Finished watching the show?...push the lever again and pull down on a handle on the case. Who knows? I might do it the same way as you...or???

Just wondering about the lamp at the top of your projector I understand heat rises do you think that will shorten the life of your lamp. Or do you have cooling fan exhausting at top also

I dont really know about lamp life or what diminishes it, as I said before Im new here and learning, it was just a thought.

I got lucky and found a BIG eliptical reflector, since only the arc tube (in the fat part of the bulb) needs to be inside the reflector I can afford a large gap around the base/top to allow air to escape, I'll throw some air at it if it's required but hope that the only fans will be for the LCD panel. If I can find tube that will "slide" together I might mount the ballast in the bottom half, that would need air also.
