I compared my 95 with my fostex FT48D. and while the sound quality of the 95 was noticeably better... the off-axis response was lousy.
Nothing is in a cabinet yet, so I just have a wire from my test amp running through a xo directly to the tweeter. With the drivers pointing at the ceiling - and myself sittng around 4 feet away, the fostex sounded much louder. It wasnt until I stood over the SS that the volume levels equaled out.
So its probably gonna be the 18w/8546 combined with the 9700
Now I have to decide two more things.
1) Two midbasses ( MMT ) or just one ?
2) Which shielded midbass driver for the center channel will be a closer match to the 8546, the Vifa MG14 wich is shielded with kevlar cone but a vifa, or one of the
15S/8530K01 (sliced paper cone, kapton coil, SD1 motor)
18S/8535 ( carbon filled paper cone, SD1 motor )
18S/8531G-00 (sliced paper cone, SD1 motor)
I don't know if its worthed to spend that money for a center channel, and if its worthed to have 18cm midbasses instead of 15cm for dialogs. Is it critical for home theater the center channel to be a perfect match to the left and right ?
For center tweeter there are two options, the self-shielded ( ? ) D2904/6000 and the semi-shielded (??) S2905/9700 What do you think ?
Thanks once more for all the help.

Thanks for the help. however some time ago an amp of mine went DC and fried the tweeters. since mine were the old variety (without the replaceale voice coil) I could not replace he voice coils without sending the whole tweeter back to morel. this was quite impossible given india's import laws and also the freight. Hence I use 9900s now. Thanks anyway.

center channels have to well done or not done at all. i had a hard time getting the balance of my center right (v/s the rear) so i now have them way low only to localise the dialog. I am quite sure i could do without them. BTW this migh have to do specifically with my setup but i guess you get the point.
in audio (like most things) the weakest link in the chain determines the quality of the product/service. if you have great front channels and poor center or rear the rear/center will spoil everything for you. it is best to be equitable with all 5 channels.
to quote dave (planet 10) i'd go for 2 x M and 1 x T. the M's would be in push-push. drop the center altogether if time and budet permits you can always add that later. and use a MT for the rear. this would require 4 x T and 6 x M for now.
Go visit solen's website (www.solen.ca).
They have the drivers you were after (15S/8530K01 and 18S/8531G00 )
not sure what shipping to your country will wind up being though.

This crossed my mind to tell you the truth.. but "bucketing" the magnets, isnt it changing the magnetic field around the voice coil ?

I've thought about that from time to time. Common sense sez, probably. However, since most of he magnetic field is contained within metal, I doubt there would be much change in using a bucking magnet. I guess you could measure with and without to see what happens.
If anyone could answer that it would be Adire Audio, they seem to have a good grip on magnetics and they actually answer questions too.
