well the reason i was asking if the port "takes a breath", or if i can aim the port at the ceiling is because i am still tryiing to understand what the point of a port is (i am currently reading the article). for the sake of argument can i put the port outside of the car? if it is just taking in air to be compressed then this wouldnt be a problem. but if pressure or noise is coming out of the port then it would make sense to "aim" the port in the same direction as the speaker.
i am reading on BCAE1 as much as possible to try to learn about this but is there a link that explains all of the theile parameters in terms that can be understood by someone new to this?

also can someone explain to me what is the difference between a hertz and a frequency? why am i tuning it to 30-40 hertz and what does that mean? at first i thought 30 hertz was a low note and generally speaking the lowest you will listen to most of the time? but now i am thinking that a frequency is the low note and now i dont know what a hertz is.

i am still working on these boxes and trying to get them to work even tho it is temporary. i have boxes that are built to inside dims of 2.25 cubic feet. i put the port in the box that kicker recomended and this resulted in the speaker bottoming out with almost no effort at all. i have the speaker out and i am willing to put a different size port in the box but i dont know what size to make the port. can anyone help me?
yes i know this box is too small and yes i understand that th port size wont give me 100% efficiancy but this is just temporary for now. i put new voice coils in these subs and i want to see if they are going to fly apart before i invest more time and money into larger boxes. i would just like to get a couple of hours of use on them in the boxes i have already built

download WinISD Pro off the net. it's free, and it will calculate your port sizes for you, just enter in the data and let it do it's thing.
im still working on tryiing to understand winisd i have printed out the help tutorial and im on page 3 of 80. i was hoping if someone is good with this program they would mind helping me out
If you don't feel like reading 80 pages right away, this tutorial gave me a good grasp of the most basic usage within a few minutes.
