I recently replaced my old home theater system, and so I was leftover with my old Samsung HT-P1200 system. I decided to reuse the 2 rear surround speakers and hooked them up to a MaxAmp 20 powered by a 12V switching PSU, and then connected the amp to my PC sound card, to give me 4.1 surround in my room. For the two remaining speakers though, I wanted to do something a little bit different.
Each of the speakers are rated at 130W rms, but I can tell you that they're plenty loud running through my MaxAmp20. Inside of each speaker are two 2-13/16 inch midrange components, and a 13/16" tweeter. So that leaves me with 4 of the midrange components. I decided that I might use them in creating a small portable system I could lug around. The purpose of this is not really to get the most bang-for-the-buck, but also to just have a fun hobby project, and for the novelty factor.
Problem is of course, I don't know the optimal enclosure for them! I have a rough sketch of the design I'd like. Currently though, I feel like it might be a bit too big, as it's based off a design I found elsewhere on the internet, using 4" drivers.
I see two ways of mitigating that.
1: Shrink the cabinets, they're currently 3.4Liters. Maybe to 2.5?
2: Add another set of components on the backside. This would provide some feeling of surround sound, which could be very nice. Perhaps doing this, and then making each bass port about 50-60mm deep could work?

Unless you have the speaker parameters (or will measure them and you could see what a different volume would do to them) you should stick to the original volume they were used with.
If not, it is hit or miss.
