Building an amplifier case

Hi

I am fed up with looking at wires and PCBs...so I would like to design a set of matching cases for my Pre amp, power amp and Shigaclone transport.

I have been sketching a few designs on graph paper but it would be nice to model a design on my pc.

Can anyone recommend a very simple ‘free’ CAD package?

2-D. Very similar to autodesk's AutoCAD.

3-D. Very easy to work with, but totally different from other CAD-software.

Have you tried Google SketchUp?

I installed Hycad. Looks good but how do you change preferences like grid view, grid space, MM to Inch, and drawing space?

Settings - Grid Snap Setting. There you can select/deselect Show Grid and adjust the grid space.
Drawing space needs no setting. View - Zoom Window gives you the possibility to specify the area shown on the screen. View - Zoom All shows a window that includes everything that has been drawn.
Later you will recognize the corresponding icons that make working more efficient.
