I am planning on making a 6SN7 & 5V6 tube amplifier.
I found an old chassis where someone tried to build an amp a long time ago but it is unfinished and badly wired with short circuits.
I want to use the chassis, 350v power transformer, the two tube sockets, the output transformer and volume control.
It used to have a 5y4 rectifier and unknown 1 stage amplifier tube.
As i stated before i am going to use a 6SN7, 5V6 and SS rectifier.
Is this ok?

thats unsurprising - the amp is a pure "power" amp configuration and needs an input of around 2v to reach full output. It certainly doesn't have enough gain for a microphone or guitar. That would need at least one more voltage gain stage in front of the sn7.
 
Hooked up a backwards audio output transformer on the input and now it kicks butt.
New two issues that i just noticed:
* There is a slight background buzz if the volume is not all the way up or down
* I have it on dim bulb and the more power i give it, the worse it sounds. It sounds great on 40 watts, worse on 60, bad on 100 and unlistenable on 140.
Why does it only sound good on low power (bad distortation otherwise)
 
Not sure I understand your mention of 40 watts etc. - a triode connected 6V6 will only give a couple of watts before clipping.

The buzz you mention could be pickup on the lead from the pot wiper to the 6SN7 grid. Is this lead screened? It should be, unless very very short and right next to a metal chassis.

You didn't say originally what you wanted to use this circuit for. It will have about the gain, power and fidelity of the audio amp in an old wireless set. Is this what you were looking for?
