there is another good reason not to move threads around. If there is a post referring to a thread that has been moved it breaks the link. For example:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthreadphp?s=&threadid=107444
col.

Good point - not sure if has already been done, but it would be cool to make a script which runs through the old posts and flags or perhaps even fixes broken internal links. 😎

Thread IDs are persistant. A link should not break when the thread is moved.
Is this the thread you were looking for?

yes, that is the one I was looking for. The broken link was in the "FR8C enclosure recommendations" thread.

Just to verify that, i moved a thread that is pointed to by an external link to a new forum (and back). No matter where the thread was the external link was fine.

For my taste the "Report" button is a bit too much eye-catching and irritating, the logo could be a bit more decent.

One of the best features of the forum (IMO) was "Have you Searched?"
It's been eliminated - I guess people were checking the box without actually conducting the search? Or it was too much trouble so people were posting less? There are some old threads here that pretty much contain the answers to most everything 🙂
What is the consensus on this - remove or retain?
Remove. I have seen an awesome AJAX alternative on other website where as you type the thread title it automatically searches and suggests threads for you, I'd like to implement that.
I use a lot mobile devices to access this forum. Not really a bug, but the browser rendering on small screens (Blackberry, etc...) is muchy worse than in the previous version. Perhaps there's a mobile devices version available?
There will be a mobile version of the website in the future.

Expect some cool new buttons in the next few weeks.
I am unable to type ALT-codes anywhere on the page. Firefox 3.0.13, Windows XP SP2, etc. With numlock on, typing ALT+1 or etc. always links to some page (e.g., the index). ALT-codes can only be entered with numlock off.
In Internet Explorer 6, I can successfully type an ALT-code in the text box with numlock on (focus elsewhere on the page jumps the cursor to a link, e.g., ALT+1 goes to Home on the bar at the top of any page, which I suppose is intended behavior).

I search for threads where I have previously posted. Search criteria = Forum nickname
The new search only finds some of the recent threads and omits many from the results.
What am I doing wrong?

the Search menu calls up the dialogue box.
Typing my nickname or AKSA or ..., in the top entry box, leave the default threads option and click Go, returns about 30% of my posted threads.
I tried tag search, that reports nothing.
Advanced search reports very similar to ordinary search.
I once got almost almost complete results report, but I can't reproduce that.
I liked that method in the old search. It was the quickest way to find the threads I was interested in, that were current or very recent.

Andrew,
Go to Advanced Search, enter the username in the username box, select view results by posts and click Search. This should return a full result set.

Thanks Audio F.
that works.
It's very slow, both to fill out the various boxes and to search. 27.1s just for the search and about another half minute to not realise the rejection was the missing code words.

Should be much faster now. A quicker way to get the same results is to click the person's username next to a post and then click "Find more posts ..." from the drop down menu.
Naw.
That finds all my posts.
I want to see the new postings in threads that I read.
The Advanced Search dialogue seems to be changing, was that you?

Minor thing, the counter that displays the number of displays ( 😕 ) seems to be stuck on zero.
See http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1906065&postcount=193
I have downloaded once. Still it says 0.

To help with server load, counters do not update immediately.
Invisible status works fine. You will see yourself in the various lists but other people won't.
