There is question regarding the right amount and best possible arrangements of power supplyes for Buffalo II set-up /as far as I know the same can be told about Buffalo III /.
There is very nice working, "preferred TP" solution: 1x Placid feeds 3xTridents.
But the question is that with that arrangement, there is ONE "main" supply- Placid, that feeds everything, digital, clock together with Analog part of DAC.
I wonder if there would be any beneficial to have "as separate as possible" analogue and digital supplies.
So the "ideal" solutions would require separate trafo and Placid for feeding digitall part with Tridents and separate trafo and Placid to feed analog part - AVVC module - question if only AVVC ??
At "old" PCM times keeping separate digital and analogue supplies and even grounds, have been kind of standard, question if that "old" habits are working still with Bufallo or it is just ower-enginering and waste of time and money.
Any fought, comments on that ... anybody have tried that.

I have not tried...
But have some theories: One of the big advantages of shunt regulators is that they have very low output impedance. This low output impedance effectively allows each Trident to act as a "separate" supply. Now nothing is "perfect" in this regard, and the technical argument can be made that feeding, even each, Trident from its own pre regulator (each with its own transformer of course!) would make for an advantage. But in practice, I doubt that you would hear a difference, but many might imagine one 😉.
Additionally, it may prove to be an advantage to use a good series regulator (rather than another shunt) as the the pre-reg for the B-II/III-Tridents. I have heard many good designers (like John Curl) suggest that using a series reg, followed by a shunt, is the "best" approach, as each different type of reg addresses different supply problems.
I think my next build will try a series pre-reg to feed the Buffalo/Trident combo,right now I am using a Salas shunt.
It will be interesting to read responses from those who may have tried multiple pre-regs...

I am using three levels of regulation for all 5 Buffalo II supplies (CRC, series regs and mini shunt regs). For the first two levels I am using TPA's excellent LCDPS and for the third level varies combinations of tridents and PH shunts.
Mind that it is a bit complicated to implement separate pre-regulation as the Vin for all 5 regulators are connected on the BII/BIII boards for convenience.

Both the Tridents and the AVCC modules can easily be supplied by seperate pre-regs, by design. Give it a try.

Well actually I already did what Bryan suggested and give that idea a try.
I've put separated pre-reg for AVVC and second for Digital part, one extra trafo and linear L317 pre-reg.......
And I could hear "differences" .... BUT I have to admit, it have been much "smaller" than I have expected it to be...

or Buffalo is pretty well fought out design as it is ...
I made that test just with Buffalo II and HD650 connected directly by differential cable. It is probably not the perfect configuration but this way it keeps thing as simple as possible.
So having Analog and Digital supply separate makes "differences that can be heard", even with my not! golden ears. Or doing experiments at 3 o'**** in the morning can make You hear lots of things 😀
